2013 Yearly Update
Greetings from the Miller family! I retired at the end of 2012 after practicing plastic surgery in Fayetteville for twenty-five years! The hospital honored me with a portrait/plaque at the OR entrance that was placed across from my father’s portrait at the ICU entrance. We have moved this year to our “Travelers Rest” home in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. My practice is on the web at www.BlowingRockPlasticSurgery.com, although I just do Coolsculpting at Westglow Resort & Spa on a limited basis. Our family time continues to be a priority. Our family trips included spending time with Will & Jo in January 2013, went on a two month, 10,000 mile, 22 state RV trip across America in April/May (www.WhereAreTheMillers.com), rented an island home off the coast of France with the Newmans, then onto Paris with Shelby, Victoria & her husband, Colin in July. We traveled to DisneyWorld with the Richardsons in October. We all attended our nephew, Luke Schofield’s wedding in Cincinnati in December. Our family web site, www.markmillerfamily.com has pictures of our travels.
I hit my 58th birthday this past February and completed the DisneyWorld Marathon in January 2013 & I’m still on the Board of Trustees of Methodist University and the local Board of First Citizen’s Bank. I continue to lecture for Zeltiq, the Coolsculpting company at national and regional conferences. Dermasensa, the Hong Kong company I co-founded, launched in China in December 2013. We produce cosmeceuticals in the US and export and sell in mainland China. I am President/CEO of Dermasensa Laboratories, Inc, our US subsidiary company (www.Dermasensa.com).
Beth & I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary last April 23rd, 2013! We continue to train for Half-Marathons. We are both involved with various aspects of moving up to our home in Blowing Rock and finding a church home.
Will (27) graduated UNC-Chapel Hill Phi Beta Kappa in 2009 and moved to China! He is engaged to the lovely Mengjie Zhou to be married May 31st. He is the Operations Manager with Haiku/Hatsune, a restaurant corporation he had interned with in 2008. He now speaks Chinese! He and Jo came home for Christmas 2013 which made the holiday season joyous. So now we have been blessed with three daughters and two sons!
Victoria (now 24) graduated in the School of Education at UNC-Chapel Hill, specializing in Child Development and Family Studies. She teaches Early Elementary Special Education in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her husband, Colin Campbell, is in his last year of law school at Liberty University there. They plan to settle somewhere in North Carolina later this year.
Shelby is now 20. She is our other world traveler having gone to Australia one summer, Germany to spend time with our German exchange daughter, Janina and Kenya, Africa to work with our missionary physical therapy friend last summer 2013. She is enjoying her sophomore year at UNC-Chapel Hill. She pledged Pi Phi Sorority this past fall. She is a pre-Physical Therapy student with a second major in religion. She is also taking scuba diving this semester and has a part-time job at her church.
Toby, our snow-white Maltese and our barn cat, Comet still rule the roost this past year. Toby accompanied us on our RV journey across America. We still have two horses, George & Patrick, who live in Louisville, Kentucky.
May you all have a blessed 2014 and let our paths cross again soon!
Mark, Beth, Will V, Jo, Victoria, Colin, Shelby
